Reason of low attendance: Inadequate washrooms

Over 40% girls do not attend school during menstruation for an average of three days in a month due to insufficient access to safe and private toilets and lack of clean water and soap for personal hygiene. The Bangladesh National Hygiene Baseline Survey 2014 found that, there was one toilet for every 187 students nationally. But there should be one toilet for every 50 students. Menstruation is a natural process and vital sign of the healthy reproductive cycle of women and girls. So, steps should be taken to improve the toilet in every school, college and university to create a better environment for practicing better menstrual health management.
