Indomitable spirit to repel

Against all impediments,Rumana Manzur;former Assistant Professor at University of Dhaka has obtained law degree at University of British Columbia, Canada. She was subjected to severe domestic violence by her husband in 2011. Based on false acquisition, her husband suspects her of being unfaithful while she has been pursuing master’s degree at UBC. The brutal incident left her blind and deformation of nose. After three decades of her life, Rumana’s eyesight was permanently damaged.

The shock was not over yet. After the incident, Rumana received scornful remark from public justifying her husband’s crime. Being an academic of the highest public academia, did not do any favor to her.

Realizing the vulnerability of Bangladeshi women, she took stern determination of completing her masters and pursue another law degree in 2013. During the hard time, her friends at Canada, raised money for her treatment and brought her parents along with her in Canada.

After passing all the hurdles, Rumana has set the milestone of her life in 2017. She successfully has successfully received law degree at UBC.

Rumana has become very vocal about women’s rights after the attack. In 2015, she gave a speech at TEDxStanleyPark determining working on women’s rights. For this, she secured another degree in law.

Undoubtedly, this success of Rumana will inflame all the women to raise their voice against all injustice and fight to live with dignity in the society.
