Human Rights Day 2016: “Stand up for someone’s rights today”

This year will be the 68th International Human Rights Day, the theme of which is: “Stand up for someone’s rights today.”

Every year on Dec 10, Human Rights Day is observed all over the world. It also marks the end of 16 days of activism to end Gender-Based Violence, which starts on the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Nov 25).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed Bangladesh’s ‘unwavering commitment’ to uphold human rights and fundamental freedom of all people around the world as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Human Rights Commission, various rights organisations and NGOs have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also delivered a message on the eve of the Human Rights Day 2016, which can be found on this link: http://www.un.org/en/events/humanrightsday/sgmessage.shtml
