Breaking the taboo

28th May is celebrated as Menstrual Hygiene Day. The vision of celebrating this day is to create awareness among girls about their reproductive health and manage their menstruation in a hygiene way.

Menstruation is a natural process and the sign of a reproductive health. However, it is still tabooed in many countries and for this reason; people have very little knowledge about menstrual hygiene. Girls do not know what is happening to their bodies and how to deal with it. Many become isolated from families, friends and communities during menstruation because of facing long-standing social stigma.
