Child brides: deprived of their childhood

According to the research done by UNICEF, more than 700 million women all over the world were married before their 18th birthday and more than 250 million entered into this union before age 15. Child marriage among girls is the most common scenario in Bangladesh, one of the findings of this research.

This research states that,in Bangladesh, more than 35% women were married before age 15 and almost 40% were married before the age 18. These child brides are not only denied their childhoods but also being socially isolated and vulnerable to their reproductive health. They become pregnant when their body is not developed which places, both mothers and babies at risk. This paper recommends that, ending child marriage, empowering and educating girls will help breaking the inter-generational cycle of poverty.
