Complications after Menstrual Regulation

Most of the women who go to have Menstrual Regulation, already have three children and don’t want any additional children. Also in order to delay pregnancy or spacing the next child, they want to do MR. However, plenty of minor complication arises after performing MR. Headache, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, uterine infection, irregular menstruation and weakness are some common complications.

This study finds the characteristics of menstrual regulation (MR) acceptance. It also shows the factors that influence its acceptance to ascertain the pattern of side-effects and complications that may be associated with it. 1000 MR acceptors were randomly selected from 30 clinics (20 rural and 30 urban) in Bangladesh during 1982-1983. Information on 387 clients was collected from 18 rural centers, among whom 221 cases were successfully interviewed. About 70% were below 35 years of age at the time of the interview.
