‘TWO FINGER TEST’ FOR RAPE VICTIMS LOSING ITS GROUND

Bangladesh might be one step closer to removing the controversial ‘Two Finger Test’ as a medical method and indication for sexual intercourse, which is also used in rape cases.

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) asserted that the examination is not foolproof, and that the “hymen may vary in size for many reasons unrelated to sex.”

Several writ petitions to The High Court were filed in public interest against the legality of the controversial two-finger method by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and seven others in 2013.

On August 16th, 2016, The High Court (HC) took opinions and evidence of many experts, doctors, and judiciaries, and appealed that petitioners develop a comprehensive guideline to formulate a better method of scientifically identifying rape victims.

The High Court will hold a hearing again on September 5, 2016.
