Empowerment Meets Climate Justice: AMAL Foundation and WomenStrong Int’l is Offering Climate Catalyst Fellowship for Young Women
A new opportunity has opened for young women in Bangladesh who are eager to take action on one of the world’s biggest challenges, Climate Change. Amal Foundation, in partnership with WomenStrong International, has launched the Climate Catalyst Fellowship for Young Women, an eight-month programme designed to empower women aged 18 to 30 to rise as climate leaders.
This fellowship goes beyond traditional training. Selected fellows will join a transformative journey of workshops, expert mentorship, and immersive field visits to understand ground realities. Each participant will also receive a small fund to design and implement their own climate project — combining leadership, advocacy, and community impact.
Bangladesh’s Climate Vulnerability
Bangladesh is often described as one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. Rising sea levels, recurring floods, and intensifying heatwaves already threaten millions of lives. According to the World Bank, the country lost US$1.78 billion in economic output in 2024 due to heat-related health issues. These losses are not only financial; they directly affect people’s lives, particularly women in marginalised communities.
Where Climate Meets SRHR
Climate change is not just an environmental issue — it’s a matter of rights, health, and justice. Disasters and extreme weather disrupt essential sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services: safe deliveries become harder, antenatal and postnatal care are interrupted, and access to contraception is limited. A 2023 policy brief by Share-Net Bangladesh highlighted that nearly all SRHR outcomes are negatively impacted by climate change, with women and girls facing the heaviest burdens.
For young women, these disruptions compound existing inequalities. Limited access to reproductive health services can lead to unsafe pregnancies or a lack of autonomy over their body. Experts argue that climate programmes must integrate SRHR, ensuring that women’s health and rights are not sidelined in the climate conversation. The Climate Catalyst Fellowship aims to bridge exactly this gap — encouraging fellows to weave maternal health, reproductive rights, and gender equality into their climate action projects.
How to Apply
The fellowship welcomes young women aged 18 to 30 from across Bangladesh who are determined to tackle climate change and strengthen their leadership skills. Applicants should be passionate about making an impact in their communities and willing to integrate gender and rights-based perspectives into their work.
