About the organisation

Ashar Prodeep is the first HIV positive women organization in Bangladesh which started its journey in the year 2008 as a women network led by a group of HIV positive women who came together to share information, experiences and ensure support. It has formed a 7 member executive committee by a 35 member general committee and registered on 10 January 2010 under the Women and Children Affairs Bureau, Bangladesh. Since inception it has been working to reduce stigma & discrimination towards women PLHAs, establish treatment rights of the women PLHAs as well as their Children, enhance empowerment and greater involvement of the women infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS in Bangladesh. Ultimate goal of AP is to support them for ensuring the well being, improving quality of life, and creating a society that is free from stigma and discrimination.

AP was supported by HIV Collaborative Fund in South Asia to increasing ART treatment for PLHIV women to reduce HIV morbidity and mortality and make the support more effective through treatment education and empowerment of PHIV women. At present it is running a project entitled “Organizational capacity and service development of AP” supported by UNICEF. The main objective of the project are to increase care and treatment support services for the affected and infected women, increase their capacity in terms of advocacy and networking to raise its voice in the national and international level and to build capacity of the organization on programme and financial management.

SRHR publications/research

It is a small community based organization. There is no separate publication on SRHR but they worked with UNAIDS, Network of PLHIV in the different research related work.
