Job Title : Manager, Women’s Economic Leadership and Market Linkages for project on “Empowering Women for Building Social Cohesion’’

ORGANISATION RELATIONSHIPS: Supervision received by: Programme Coordinator

PURPOSE: In line with BRAC’s strategic plans and partnership with UNWOMEN, the purpose of this position is to Work under the overall supervision of Programme Coordinator for the project under Partnership with UNWOMEN on “Empowering Women for Building Social Cohesion”. S/he has to work closely with Project team at Head office and Field offices in 6 districts ( Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Satkhira, Jessore, Maulobhi Bazar and Cox’s Bazar) in Bangladesh starting from June 2017 – March 2018.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership/ strategic and technical role:

  • Facilitative leadership in positioning CEP’s strategic steer on promoting women’s economic leadership and its linkages with market.
  • Linking up the project’s outcome on women’s economic leadership with the on-going interventions of CEP with prime focus on business model development and engagement of Private Sector.
  • To contribute to the delivery CEP’s focus on women’s economic empowerment and leadership with specific responsibility for the management of the inclusive business development strategy and social enterprise programme.
  • Project Planning, Project Operational Management and Reporting Requirements: Take the lead role to finalize the plan for promoting women’s economic leadership role.
  • Provide oversight, technical support and leadership to the field team in 6 locations in identifying potential business plan, business model and its linkages with market.
  • Lead in developing modules, tools and materials for building capacity of women on their leadership role in economic activity.
  • To lead in the development and strengthening of CEP’s work in Bangladesh on inclusive market development, social enterprise and private sector engagement.
  • To facilitate programme reviews, evaluations and internal and external networking; using learning to inform decision-making & effective documentation of key lessons on women’s economic empowerment and leadership.
  • Provide support to Programme Coordinator in producing necessary reports e.g. donor reports, quarterly reports, annual progress reports etc. to a consistently high quality. Negotiate, influence, and facilitate public dialogue promoting women’s economic empowerment and leadership role.
  • Ensures adherence to BRAC’s Gender, Diversity and Equal Opportunities policies Closely work with the other Programs like Enterprise, Gender Justice and Diversity and Skill Development, and utilize the learning for better project delivery.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES (required to perform all the responsibilities of this role):

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent understanding (both conceptual and practical) on women’s economic empowerment and leadership role.
  • Significant experience in market systems development work, particularly involving markets, value chain development, private sector engagement and / or social enterprise initiatives.
  • Knowledge of development issues, familiarity with and a supportive attitude towards processes of strengthening field level staffs and building their capacity for self-management, a solid understanding of market systems development, rural economic development, with focus on participatory processes and gender empowerment issues.
  • Experience of working with private sector actors and diverse stakeholders in a variety of markets.
  • Enough knowledge and understanding about the national and international policy, laws and interventions on women’s economic leadership.
  • Proven knowledge and analytical skill and competency on Gender, Diversity and Power Relationship

SKILLS:

Excellent articulation, presentation and writing skills in English and Bangla Proven analytical and decision making skills in a challenging context Experience working in environments with politically sensitivities issues Skills in results-oriented program development and implementation Strong social skills – especially when working with community groups

  • Apply understanding of the political and cultural context and underlying causes of the imbalance power structure.

 EXPERIENCE

Minimum 6 years working experiences in development business plan, market development, entrepreneurship development and engagement with private sector. Excellent professional track record in leading technical side in promoting women’s rights focused economic empowerment and leadership project with high volume budget.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Degree Concentration / Major Master’s Degree/ MBA Business management development; agribusiness/ rural economic development
