Women entrepreneurship important for boosting empowerment

Senior bankers at a discussion on Wednesday, Nov 9, unanimously agreed that substantial and sustainable promotion of women entrepreneurship could be the effective means of ensuring women empowerment.

The observation was made while giving loans worth Taka six lakh at 5% interest rate among 12 women entrepreneurs at Local Principal Office of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), while also stressing women entrepreneurship an important step for boosting their income generating activities besides employment for many others.

RAKUB aging director and chief guest Awal Khan praised the present government for adopting to diversified programmes for elevating living and livelihood condition of the womenfolk and urged the recipients for best uses of the borrowed money. Women entrepreneurs should seize every opportunity through the best uses of their trade-wise associations. Professional training could help women entrepreneurs realize these opportunities, he also said.

He, however, stated that women entrepreneurs have many problems and obstacles which should be removed on an urgent basis, and that empowerment of women is vital for their economic emancipation.
