Ensuring Safe Menstrual Hygiene: Senora & OGSB Join Forces To Ensure Safe And Infection-Free MHM
In a powerful move to improve menstrual hygiene and reproductive health in Bangladesh, Square Toiletries Limited’s flagship brand Senora and the Obstetric and Gynecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB) have launched a collaborative initiative titled “Ensuring Safe Menstrual Hygiene”.
Held in Dhaka on April 21, the event brought together gynaecologists, public health experts, and representatives from Square Group, centering on the urgent need for safe, accessible, and stigma-free menstrual hygiene solutions. The alliance seeks to ensure that 60% of Bangladeshi women have access to safe menstrual hygiene by 2030.
According to Kantar’s 2024 Household Penetration Data, only 17.4% of Bangladeshi women use sanitary pads—leaving the majority exposed to infections and social exclusion. “This is not just a health issue; it’s a question of dignity, safety, and rights,” said Malik Mohammad Sayeed, Managing Director of Square Toiletries Limited.
Startling data shared at the event paints a grim picture:
-
97% of women face cervical infections due to unsafe menstrual practices.
-
68% of girls are married within four years of their first period.
-
40% of schoolgirls miss at least three school days per month during menstruation.
-
The RMG sector loses productivity as 6 million female workers miss six workdays annually.
Senora, with its sterilised, chemical-free sanitary pads, has been working for over 30 years to make menstrual protection more affordable and widely accepted. Their school awareness campaigns, factory outreach, and installation of pad vending machines reflect a model of sustainable menstrual education and access.
Prof. Dr. Farhana Dewan, President of OGSB, echoed the call to action: “Empowering women starts with protecting their health. Together, we must end the silence around menstruation.”
This collaboration marks more than just a campaign—it’s a systemic push for reproductive rights, menstrual regulation, and gender equity. By linking menstrual hygiene to broader SRHR goals, Senora and OGSB aim to challenge taboos, improve health outcomes, and support adolescent girls to stay in school.
The event closed with a networking lunch and raffle draw, but its message was clear: collective action is the only way to end menstrual inequity in Bangladesh.
