Bangladesh’s PSTC Joins IPPF as Full Member: Marking a Major Milestone in Global SRHR Network
The Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) has officially joined the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) as a full member. The decision was finalised at the IPPF Board meeting held in London on 20 June 2025, solidifying PSTC’s position in a global alliance spanning over 140 countries.
This membership reflects PSTC’s rapid evolution—from a collaborative partner to a recognised leader in SRHR advocacy—within a record span of just 21 months. The announcement was formally conveyed through a letter addressed to PSTC’s Governing Body Chairperson, Sanjida Islam, signed by IPPF Director-General Dr Alvaro Bermejo.
“This recognition is a powerful reflection of our commitment, accountability, and collective effort in the field of SRHR,” said Dr Noor Mohammad, Executive Director of PSTC. “Reaching full membership in such a short time is a matter of pride and motivation for all of us.”
Ahead of the board meeting, a consultative session was held with key IPPF leadership, including Dr Bermejo, IPPF South Asia Regional Director Tomoko Fukuda, and Dr Noor Mohammad, where future strategies for collaboration and regional alignment were discussed.
Joining IPPF as a full member is more than symbolic. It enables PSTC to access a global platform of technical support, knowledge exchange, and policy influence—factors crucial in enhancing its impact in Bangladesh. IPPF’s global presence and strategic framework provide members like PSTC with tools to amplify outreach, strengthen service delivery, and advocate more effectively for health rights.
As a part of its future roadmap, PSTC will now align its 2025–2030 strategic plan with IPPF’s Strategy 2028, emphasising innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable impact. According to PSTC, this alignment will allow it to ensure improved access to SRHR services for marginalised communities across Bangladesh.
The organisation has also acknowledged the continued guidance of IPPF’s global and South Asia regional offices, along with the dedication of its governing body and staff, as instrumental in achieving this milestone.
With this membership, PSTC joins an esteemed network that includes over 100 civil society organisations worldwide, all united in their mission to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights.
This development marks a turning point for Bangladesh’s SRHR landscape, placing a homegrown organisation at the centre of a global conversation. It also signals growing international confidence in Bangladesh’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to global health and rights advocacy.
