About the organisation

BISAP is the acronym of “Bangladesh Integrated Social Advancement Programme”. It is a non-political,
non-profitable, secular and non-government development organization. It came into existence in 1989 in
response to the felt-needs of the area of the poor and hard core people, especially problems of endemic
poverty, ill-health which manifest in landlessness, unemployment, illiteracy, malnutrition and vulnerability to
frequent natural disaster, by the active initiative of local social workers, philanthropists and educationists
with a view to alleviating poverty through empowerment, education and resource mobilization for improving
their life and livelihood and innovating appropriate development strategies to lead the programme towards
sustainability.

Legal Status: BISAP is registered with NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of Bangladesh under Foreign Donation
(Voluntary Activities) Regulation Rules, 1978 having Reg. No. FDO/R -659 dated 22.10.1992.

Mission of BISAP: BISAP works with the poor communities in order to improve socio-economic status,
promote gender equality and bring positive changes in the society through close collaboration with
government line departments, local government and administration, civil societies, NGOs, private sectors,
development partners and other stakeholders.

Vision of BISAP: BISAP looking for a poverty free society where human rights and social justice be
promoted, local capacity built, eliminated gender discrimination and reduced climate change vulnerability.

Goals of BISAP: Integrated & Comprehensive Community Development through Developmental initiative efforts.

Wider Objectives of BISAP: Wider objectives of BISAP are based on the following interrelated fundamental principles:
• To improve the health and nutritional status of the people especially women, children and people
with different abilities of underserved and marginalized community.
• To ensure prevention of HIV/STI/AIDS in collaboration with development partners.
• To reduce the incidence of women and child trafficking through boarder areas in Bangladesh
• Promoting human rights, gender equity, good governance & social justice.
• Technology demonstration to climate change.
• To establish inter-agency collaboration for the improvement of water and sanitation (WASH)
situation at the grass-roots including Govt. Un-bodies, bilateral and international bodies.
• Community strengthening activity to impart basic primary education for unschoold and dropout
children.
• Formation of Community Based Organization (CBO) for social action.
• Networking and Advocacy in favour of distressed people, specially for women and children.

Specific objectives:

The specific objectives are:
• Provide public health care and curative on common diseases. Facilitate preventive & control of
Communicate diseases.
• Reproductive health and Contraceptive Services Identifying eligible couples, and motivating for
Family Planningdelaying first child, spacing between two children, Access to spacing methods-
OCP, ECP, condoms, IUCD insertion and removal, RTI treatment- Syndromic
management/partner treatment, First aid for GBV- link to referral centre and legal support centre
• Child and adolescent health Growth Monitoring, Prevention through IYCF counselling, access
to food supplementation- convergence with ICDS, Deworming, Immunization- , prompt and
appropriate treatment of diarrhoea/ARI, referral where needed, detection of Severe Acute
malnutrition, referral and follow up care.
• Facilitate organized group members in raising their social awareness and enable to find out root
causes of poverty and hunger.
• Impart both human and skill development training to the group members and staff for efficiency
building and attitudinal changes.
• Make illiterate group members functionally literate and well-informed about the socio-economic
capacity building and components for confidence building to change their own situation either
individually of collectively.
• Create self-employment generation scope for group members by extending revolving micro-credit
support both for poverty alleviation and promoting women’s economic rights including control over
resources.
• Non-Formal basic primary education to unschooled and little schooled youngsters of 6-10 years for
whom basic education is hard to reach for their growth, development and rights.
• Provide package of hardware and soft ware support to the group members in the arena of water-aid
& sanitation for improving their health status along with reduction of water-brone diseases and
generating pollution –free environment.
• Undertake need-based programme by mobilizing manpower, water and soil in the area for boosting
up agricultural production and productivity both in farm Non-Formal sector for food and security and
nutritional improvement.
• Stimulate the process of sustainable development for enhancing relevant capabilities and
empowerment.
• Undertake both emergency relief and rehabilitation programme during disaster for immediate
survival and restoring normal life situation respectively.
• Create demand and making poor people’s access to resource mobilization both Govt. and non-Govt.
sources for sustainable development .
• Disseminate information inputs of socio-economic development and health awareness through
printed, electronic and audio-visual media for mass mobilization .
• Building tolerance of local community towards conservation of elephants and improving political
support for wildlife conservation.
• To adapt to climate change vulnerability and to mitigate disaster risk
• Promote the rights of disable people & include them in the mainstream.
• Build-up partnership & consortium for wider and better achievement.
• Development linkages with the relevant National ,and International Development Agencies for wider
support and co-operation.
• Ensure close supervision ,regular follow-up ,reporting and tight monitoring for qualitative programme
achievement.
