Being born a girl shouldn’t be a hurdle: FIDH

FIDH is an international human rights NGO federating 184 organizations from 112 countries. Since 1922, FIDH has been defending all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Violence against women is a global plague: domestic violence, rape, including marital rape, sexual and gender-based crimes committed during armed conflict, and attacks on women human rights defenders.

In order to fight this epidemic, FIDH have been trying to implement The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), which is an international bill of women’s rights. Yet, the fight is far from over. Women and girls still face discrimination that seriously compromises their day to day lives and future.

To bring action together to put a stop to discrimination against women, the hashtag #BeingBornAGirl is promoted by the organization along with a petition which you can sign in their website.
