Health Assessment for Female Garment Workers

In Ready Made Garments industry, women represent 85 percent of the total 2.5 million employees, according to The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), 2008. According to the research, Female Factory Workers’ Health Needs Assessment: Bangladesh; the average age of marriage for women has increased and also their financial situation because of employment in the garment industry.  However, many difficulties still remain; specially regarding women’s health. Majority of the female garment workers find health facilities inaccessible because of long working hours and long waiting hours at the government hospitals. Health care facilities in factories are very poor and women are vulnerable in many ways, reported by HERproject Bangladesh.
