Video show improving knowledge on IYCF practices

Scientists from the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) and Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) have looked into effect of video show on the infant and young child feeding practices in a rural Bangladeshi village.

The research was conducted in Companygonj upazila of Sylhet district in 2011 with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through Alive & Thrive project under FHI360.

The researchers scored mothers from intervention and control areas on different indicators. There were statistically significant difference between the two groups in indicators of 1.Early initiation of breast feeding, 2. Correct knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding, 3. Right knowledge of adequacy of breast milk and 4. Knowledge on initiation of complementary feeding.

The researchers in their article have also encouraged the use of such video shows to improve maternal and child health in areas without electric supply.
